Final Show!

So, it's been a little while since my last post, but things have been entirely too crazy. The last week of the show was great, we had some amazing athletes on and great segements. The final show, however, was by far the greatest; we had almost every U.S. medalist on the show. Since we had so many guests, everyone was running around like crazy. The greenroom had more people in it than it did the entire Olympics, combined. The set was crowded with tons of people such as talent, athletes, other guests accompanying athletes, as well as then entire crew. As if to make things more difficult, a good amount of staff left the day earlier, including Matt Lauer and Donna, the woman in charge of wardrobe. Since she had left early, another runner and myself took over her duties. It was chaos. There were pieces that went from outside near the fire pit, to inside on set, and then back again, which meant changing the talent into the coats, jackets, scarves, and gloves constantly. On top of helping with wardrobe, I had my usual duties of working on the set. With the massive amount of athletes we had on the show, it meant little space for them to be interviewed. Therefore, I had to clear the set a few times and then replace it before the next shot on set, as well as set up for the food segement. Although it was crazy and people were everywhere, the show was amazing. Everything flowed pretty well and there were minimal problems for such a busy day. After the show finished, it was time to break everything down and ship it back to 30 Rock. I was shocked at how quickly the breakdown went. Ed and I finished wrapping everything up in about 2 hours. It was amazing to see how fast the technicians broke down the set. It took months of preparation and weeks of hard work, only to be destroyed in a matter of days. The few days that remained after the show were spent breaking down the Today Show office. We packed up everything and shipping it off to London to be used during the 2012 Olympics. That too took about a week to set up and less than a day to take apart. Our last day was extremely bittersweet. We couldn't wait to get home and see our friends and family, but the time spent in Vancouver was so amazing, no one wanted to leave. I'm happy to be home, but I'd go back in a heartbeat. Now I'm counting down the days to London, in hopes of being a Today Show runner again. It was too great of an experience to pass up a second time around.
